156 BUCKSKIN CHARLEY, Southern Ute Chief (1840-1936) Succeeding Chief Ouray in 1880, Charles Buck became the first Ute leader during the Reservation period. He is remembered for leading the rescue of the women and children abducted during the Meeker Massacre and riding with Geronimo in President Theodore Roosevelt's 1905 Inaugural Parade.
