173 JACK RED CLOUD, “Mahpiya Luta,” Oglala Sioux Chief (1862-1928)
Jack Red Cloud became chief of the Oglala Sioux at the Pine Ridge Agency during the last years of Red Cloud’s (his father) life. He achieved recognition as a warrior and a gifted orator, guiding his people during the difficult years following the closing of the frontier.
